Transcatheter aortic valve replacement information and international destinations

Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) or transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is a minimally invasive surgery in which a new valve is placed over the aortic valve to help recover the blood flow that has been adversely impacted by severe aortic stenosis.
The cardiologist can perform the surgery with local or general anesthesia. A minor incision may be made on the groin, neck, or chest, depending on the patient. The replacement valve is then inserted into the damaged valve using a thin, flexible tube; similar to a stent, it pushes against the old valve and keeps the blood flowing.
